Exam Services Banner

Exam Services can accommodate students who are approved for extended time and/or reduced distraction.

Please forward the SDS accommodation letter you received from your student to dce-exams@uiowa.edu.

  • Students who receive extended time and/or a reduced distraction testing environment will schedule their exams in the same manner as their classmates.
  • Students who request accommodations other than extended time and/or reduced distraction will need to test at SDS, which is located in the lower level of Burge Hall.
    • The accommodation letter indicates if a student’s approved accommodations will be administered at the SDS offices.

When a student has extended time (for example 50% more time) they are:

  • Given extended time in the Exam Services’ scheduler. Students use the self-scheduler which calculates their adjusted time. Their exam cover sheet will show the adjusted time.
  • Given extended time in ICON quizzes and/or exams.

Students who have reduced distraction are:

  • Identified by the Exam Services’ scheduler as needing to test in a quiet room. Students use the self-scheduler which will only display the times available in our approved reduced distraction rooms.

On-campus instructors can use this online request form to schedule student make-up exams, extended time and/or reduced distraction exams.

  • Students who request accommodations other than extended time and/or reduced distraction will need to test at SDS, which is located in the lower level of Burge Hall.
    • The SDS accommodation letter indicates if a student’s approved accommodations will be administered at the SDS offices.
  • Additional information and directions are provided on the online request form.
  • Instructors must schedule at least 3 business days prior to the exam.
