Distance and Online Education (DOE) Exam Services can accommodate students who are approved for extended time and/or reduced distraction.

Please forward the SDS accommodation letter you received from your student to doe-exams@uiowa.edu.

  • Students who receive extended time and/or a reduced distraction testing environment will schedule their exams in the same manner as their classmates.
  • Students who request accommodations other than extended time and/or reduced distraction will need to test at SDS, which is located in the lower level of Burge Hall.
    • The accommodation letter indicates if a student’s approved accommodations will be administered at the SDS offices.

When a student has extended time (for example 50% more time), they are:

  • Given extended time in the Exam Services’ scheduler. Students use the self-scheduler which now displays available times based on their adjusted time.
  • Given extended time in ICON quizzes and/or exams.

When a student has reduced distraction, they are:

  • Identified by the Exam Services’ scheduler as needing to test in a reduced distraction room. Students use the self-scheduler which will display available times in our reduced distraction rooms.

If you don't teach a DOE course, you can contact DOE Exam Services and use this online request form to request proctoring for students needing extended time and/or reduced distraction exams. Instructors must schedule at least 3 business days prior to the exam.

NOTE: Students who request accommodations other than extended time and/or reduced distraction will need to test at Student Disability Services, which is located in the lower level of Burge Hall. The SDS accommodation letter indicates if a student’s approved accommodations should be administered at the SDS offices.
