Appointments and Compensation Banner

Faculty with regular appointments at the University of Iowa usually do not require an additional or supplementary appointment to teach Distance and Online Education courses through the Division of Continuing Education (DCE) during the regular academic year. Faculty may teach Distance and Online Education courses as part of their regular teaching load, or on an overload basis for extra compensation.

Instructors who are not regularly appointed faculty require an academic appointment to teach a Distance and Online Education course. Appointments for adjunct or visiting faculty and for graduate teaching assistants are initiated by the sponsoring academic department and are approved by the appropriate collegiate and central administration officials. Further information about DCE faculty appointments is available on the Office of the Provost's website.

Compensation for teaching Distance and Online Education courses varies by college and department. Faculty should contact their departments for compensation information or, alternately, contact Assistant Dean Marlys Boote.
