Learn about the support offered for proctored exams.

Definition

A proctored exam is a monitored exam completed in a secure environment. Proctored exams could be completed on paper, in the Quizzes page of ICON, or in another web platform. Exams could be proctored by instructors, test center, or virtual proctors. Proctored exams are used where instructors wish to protect academic integrity, prevent and deter cheating, protect the reputation of the institution and the value of the education, and provide a fair testing experience.

For courses with proctored exams, DOE Exam Services offers two types of exam support. Eligibility for exam support is based on the course's delivery mode as defined by MAUI. Click here to learn about delivery mode in MAUI.

Basic exam support

Eligibility: Any University of Iowa section, no matter the MAUI delivery mode, is eligible for this service. Basic exam support is frequently used for students taking exams with accommodations or for students taking make-up exams.

Full exam support

Eligibility: Full exam support is only available for courses with the online or hybrid delivery mode in MAUI. Support begins with exam build and continues through exam delivery and exam review.
